This October marks the 80th anniversary of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), an annual observance recognizing the vital contributions of people with disabilities in the American workforce. This year, NDEAM celebrates 80 years of impact with the theme Celebrating Value and Talent. The month is an opportunity to honor achievements past and present, highlight ongoing challenges, and inspire companies to create workplaces that fully include people with disabilities.

At Aspiritech, we see this celebration as more than a symbolic acknowledgement of the disability community. It’s true that NDEAM emphasizes the value and talent of members of the workforce. However, one of our engagement managers has observed, “It’s hard to bring your value as a disabled employee unless your company culture is supporting challenges and welcoming differences.”

Simply put, humans thrive when workplaces actively remove barriers, foster inclusion, and nurture potential.

Supporting Neurodivergent Talent Internally

Aspiritech’s commitment to inclusion starts from within our organization. Since our founding in 2008, we’ve developed comprehensive internal supports designed specifically for neurodivergent team members, including the autistic individuals that make up more than 90% of our staff. These supports range from structured onboarding and flexible, remote-first work arrangements to sensory-friendly accommodations and a dedicated team committed to ensuring that employees can show up as their best selves on a daily basis. The goal is to provide every employee with the tools and environment they need to succeed, allowing them not only to contribute, but to thrive.

Collaborating to Expand Opportunities

Our impact extends beyond the bounds of our own nonprofit. Aspiritech is a founding member of Neurowrx, a global initiative dedicated to expanding career opportunities for autistic professionals in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Through our continued partnership, we help connect talented individuals with meaningful work and provide resources for employers committed to neurodiversity hiring, and inspire aligned organizations to do the same. Our collective goal is to make workplaces more inclusive, creating pathways for an often-overlooked talent pool to contribute unique skills and perspectives that drive innovation and meaningful change.

We also built NeuroGrowth, a video training program that educates managers and leaders on how to create neuroinclusive workplaces. By empowering leaders to recognize strengths, accommodate challenges, and foster collaboration, NeuroGrowth equips companies to retain neurodivergent employees and maximize their potential.

Because neuroinclusion begins before a neurodivergent employee is even hired, we’re making The Candidate Experience available for free through October 31, 2025. This on-demand NeuroGrowth course is presented by Nick Bruno, Aspiritech’s VP of People & Culture. By incorporating neurodiversity-friendly practices throughout the recruitment process, you’ll enable all job candidates to perform their best at their first interview and beyond. Claim your free Candidate Experience NeuroGrowth course by using code NDEAM25 at checkout by October 31.

Accessibility as an Employment Driver

Employment inclusion goes beyond hiring practices and company culture. It’s also about the tools people use every day. Aspiritech’s accessibility team helps companies audit, adapt, and improve internal digital systems, removing barriers that might prevent employees with disabilities from participating and performing their best.

Whether it’s redesigning HR platforms, enhancing team collaboration software, or ensuring internal communications are accessible, internal efforts of offering fully usable tech will support meaningful participation and help employers realize the full value of all their employees. At a time when only 39% of companies require vendors to meet accessibility standards, it’s clear that employers and their vendors have a lot of catching up to do.

Partners and Clients Driving Change

Our partners and clients are also part of this ecosystem of change toward disability inclusion. By engaging with Aspiritech, many organizations not only access expert accessibility and quality assurance services but also take steps internally to improve their own disability employment practices. Some are updating recruitment strategies, some are enhancing internal systems, and others are investing in staff training. All of these actions create a lasting, positive impact for their workforce.

When acknowledging achievements is not enough and action is the key to true inclusion, every accessible platform, neuroinclusive policy, and supportive culture change contributes to a workforce where people with disabilities can shine. By fostering these conditions, we  can all move beyond simply recognizing value to actually enabling human talent to succeed.

Looking Ahead

As we honor the contributions of people with disabilities this October, we’re reminded that true inclusion requires sustained effort, thoughtful policy, and intentional cultural change. Our vision of a world that values talents, supports challenges, and welcomes differences goes beyond simply demonstrating benefits. We need to create conditions in which those benefits can be fully realized.

This month and always, we celebrate our employees, partners, and clients who share missions of inclusion, and we continue to push for workplaces that truly empower and embrace differences. Through programs like Neurowrx, NeuroGrowth, and our accessibility initiatives, we strive to make disability employment not just possible, but the obvious choice for everyone.

Supplemental Resources

The Aspiritech engagement manager quoted above shared a number of videos from the disability community with us on our company’s Slack. We thought they’d make helpful resources as you consider your organization’s relationship to disability employment, as well.
