Our colleagues at Little Friends, an Illinois-based nonprofit organization dedicated to providing numerous resources to individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, have announced the upcoming launch of their Skill Develop Program cohort as part of their Connecting Adults with Communities (CAC) initiative.

The first-ever Skill Development Program cohort will begin on February 12, 2024. This 12-week course centered around soft skills and experiential learning will focus on building the confidence and skills that help neurodivergent young adults find and sustain competitive, integrated employment.

The Skill Development Program will empower participants to identify their interests, talents, and areas of focus as they begin training and searching for jobs. Participants will gain experiential learning through on-the-job training. They will also acquire soft skills to help them succeed in typical workplace settings, including:

  • Self-advocacy
  • Communication
  • Social interaction
  • Work-related socialization
  • Job-seeking techniques

After completing the program, participants can also expect to receive continued skills practice through on-the-job training and regular check-ins to ensure their long-term career confidence and independence.

Little Friends’ 12-week Skill Development Program will occur Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, from February 12 through May 3, 2024. The cost to enroll in this program is $1,500.

For more information about the Skill Development Program and Connecting Adults with Communities, contact Program Director Cassidy Kaput at ckaput@lilfriends.com or 630-929-2725.

Additionally, Little Friends is holding several informational sessions on their Skill Development Program in person at their facility at 27545 Diehl Road, Warrenville, IL 60555.

These sessions will occur on Wednesdays from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on January 17, January 31, and February 7. Thursday sessions are also available from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM on January 18, February 1, and February 8.

Aspiritech is thrilled to see this effort to support neurodivergent employment and success. Visit the CAC page of the Little Friends website to learn more about this newly launched initiative.
